In many cases a translator will be the first to explain a new concept to readers of English and an amateur translator will not suffice to introduce these innovations.

In the medical field precise terminology and consistency in usage are critical aspects of texts. The translator must ensure that all documents, be they clinical trials, explanatory guides for doctors or instructions on the use of a medical device, provide clear, unequivocal information and that they avoid possible misunderstandings.
Travel & Tourism
An ever-widening range of options are available to tourists these days and the choice of just a few words may sway their opinion. These readers will typically base their expectations of a tour company, a cultural visit or an agriturismo on keywords of a text. An easy-to-read translation will attract more tourists; those awkward translations with embarrassing errors certainly will not inspire confidence.

The perfect wording may spell success for marketing a product or service. However, expressions translated literally may conjure up an unintended image or association for readers of a different culture. To avoid a potential marketing disaster, the translator must be sensitive to the power that words can exert over a particular audience.

Apericena. Musealizzazione. Forcola. Some Italians may not even know what these words mean. Yet they originated in Italy and an English reader may need to understand them. A good translator will have to know when to create an equivalent, when to explain the concept explicitly or when to find a different solution.
